Walk to Cure Arthritis San Antonio, TX
Saturday, May 17, 2014
The Walk to Cure Arthritis raises funds and awareness to fight the nation's leading cause of disability. We aren't just helping the millions of people who live with arthritis pain, we're funding research that's getting us closer to a cure.
The event features a three-mile and one-mile course, with arthritis information and activities for the entire family. Pet owners are encouraged to bring their dogs.
Let's raise funds to find a cure for arthritis, then come together to support each other and walk!
My sister Aletse was diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis at the age of 23. She is my hero and biggest inspiration. I have seen my sister go to work when she can barely walk and break the key ignition of her car using whatever she could find to turn the key because her fingers were so swollen they could not bend to turn the key; just so she could drive to work. She never quits and pushes forward when most people would have given up or made excuses. Unless it happens to you or someone you love very deeply you do not truly understand how this disease changes your life.
There is no cure for it, only medication which helps minimize the destruction of the joints and manages the pain. Most of these medications have side effects that are only slightly more tolerable than the disease and can cause other health issues. I love my sister very much and want more for her than just to minimize and manage her pain.
I want to help find a cure! I hope you can join me, to raise money for arthritis as part of Team Ale B. Thank you! -- Wendy Garcia.
